Backstory
"These girls and their teacher granted me permission to take this photograph during early morning prayers at an Islamic school in Narathiwat, Thailand. A separatist insurgency in the south has cost over 4000 lives. I was struck by the gentle beauty of the girls' faith in a region marred by conflict, and how it contrasts with the images of men with guns that dominate the very limited media coverage that the area receives."
